A Morning Report on the Dawn of Battle

http://youtu.be/71TN8NTtNBU

No reason not to have a little Disney Lion King on a Saturday morning, is there?

It was a good night Thursday night at Heroes World for gaming.
I managed to play two games with my second choice list for the MEAC2013 event I am attending today, and learned some tough lessons about my choices and play style.  I had forgotten how much I really like playing small point games, and really learning what a caster and Battlegroup can do.  It’s nice and refreshing to go back and play smaller games when we have the chance.  Thankfully the current Machinations League has allowances for smaller point games.

None Asked, and None Given

Because you need to know what I think about this.

No Quarter, that is.  The magazine.  What else could I possibly mean?

I wanted to launch our review series of articles with a product I feel rather privileged to read and receive regularly; Privateer Press’ No Quarter bi-monthly magazine.  As a subscriber and collector of the magazine I feel I am uniquely qualified to write a review of the product that goes beyond an overview of the current issue and talks about the magazine in terms of it’s value as a regular supplemental product for the company’s Warmachine, Hordes, IKRPG, Level 7 [Escape] and Bodgers line of products.  Because really what we have is a high quality product that can be used to enhance your knowledge and experience with the games mentioned.

Oh and brace yourselves, this is the longest article to date here on the blog.  I hope you find it of value and not too painful of a read.

5 Comics To Watch

Avengers #12 (Marvel) – Avengers in the Savage Land.  What else do you need to know?  Jonathan Hickman’s alt Avengers book seems to finally be catching on with readers after a lot of moaning about the cast of characters populating this book.  Last issues casino trip issue, along with the coming on the Infinity Event seems to have finally swayed people into giving this book the credit its due.  It’s the same old story when it comes to Hickman.  They want instant gratification, or want to be able to figure out where the story is going, and that’s just not how he writes…but the payoff in the end with a Hickman book is always well worth the wait…and Avengers looks like no exception.

Throwing Down The Gauntlet

With Lock & Load looming closer, it’s taken up a lot of my thoughts, particularly the debut of the new world championship: Iron Gauntlet. Being a brand new format, it’ll be particularly interesting to find out how it’ll develop. Will you see the same big names dominating the tournament scene? Will the same lists be prevalent? Only time will tell.

All pertinent information is here (and here is the document. Go ahead and read, I’ll wait). One of the first things that you’ll note is that the world is divided up into several regions. I certainly appreciate the meticulousness of the map, otherwise who knows what chaos would ensue when a player from Greenland or Nunavut entered? But I digress…

After a year of playing in various qualifying tournaments and accruing points, the top 2 players from each geographic region and 8 wildcard players (similar to how the NFL does the playoffs – hopefully nerd cliches don’t always hold true and you have a passing familiarity with sports) are invited to play in the finals at Lock & Load in Seattle. Due to the tracking of player performance over the year, player seeding in the finals is possible, something that I’m a big fan of.

Lost Hemisphere Radio ep72: NQ48 and the Gross Interview

Excuse me, sir, do you have a moment to talk about the Convergence of Cyriss? By golly, by gum, our guests this week do! This time it’s a tag-team effort as Gdaybloke and Northblade divide and conquer to bring you not one, but two interviews that have just a tad of a focus on Warmachine’s impending new faction! Jamie bends the ear of Managing Editor Aeryn Rudel about No Quarter #48 and all of its clockwork goodness, while Chris has a staring contest with author Dave Gross about his work on Skull Island eXpedition releases The Devil’s Pay and Dark Convergence.

Nerdy Jobs: Commander, an introduction!

nerdyjobs

I like many other nerds have gone through phases of gaming, one of these phases (a long time ago) was during the golden age of TCG.  That special phase that you look back on and cringe at either the amount of money you invested or the value of the cards that you ONCE had.  I during my golden age (Grade 7) I cracked open my first package of Pokemon cards and stumbled across:

Age of Ultron #8 (Marvel) – We’re nearing the end of the line when it comes to Age of Ultron, and things are about to get interesting.  Angela is due to make her Marvel debut shortly, so collectors will probably be out in full force gobbling up issues…not to mention those of you who have been following from the beginning…or have just recently jumped on.  I’ve been quite impressed with the goings on, and have a feeling that Marvel may finally have a payoff to an event that lives up to the hype.

Age of Ultron #8

The Clock is ticking for you….

So this summer sees the launch of a brand new and exciting faction for the Warmachine game; the Convergence of Cyriss!  Since the advent of the IKRPG adventure “Shadow of the Exile”, the interest of players, game masters, fiction fans and many others has been roused and curiosity piqued by the mysterious cult who worship a mechanical Goddess,  the Maiden of Gears.  A very brief pass of the material in that adventure gives us an entire temple that the player characters must delve through, and some fascinating revelations about the cult and the worshippers of the Maiden of Gears.  All that served to whet the appetite and fuel the imagination for almost 10 years until Privateer Press finally began to preview a fully functional and operational lesser faction called the Convergence of Cyriss!

The Mother of Invention

We’d be remiss here if we didn’t take a minute to give thanks, and offer love and support, to all the Mothers, Wives, Partners and Significant Others who make our lives complete, who give us the love and comfort we desire and also allow us to pursue our passions and be hysterical about out hobbies.

Whethert the mother of your children, the muse who inspires your paint schemes or the one who graciously allows us our days away to play in events and games with our friends and peer groups, today is a great day to celebrate the partners we love and thank them for their love and support.

Happy Mother’s Day!

To Ladyblade I would have to say you are the very best Mother I know, an excellent example for our daughter to aspire to and a wonderful friend and partner to me, and for that I thank you and love you always and forever, not just on Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day all, make sure you take some time to thank the one you love, the one who raised you, or the one who inspires you daily.

Paint something for the partner you love, I for one am going to open a box of Mice and see if Ladyblade wants to paint later today.
