Lost Hemisphere radio ep71

Lost Hemisphere Radio has a grand tradition of looking on the bright side, being positive, and always rooting for fun over competitiveness. For episode 71 however, just this once, we’re letting our grumpy side out of the box… well, it’s about as grumpy as we’re going to get on air, at least. Welcoming back the prodigal son JDWhitee to the guest seat, Gdaybloke and Northblade take a look at some models in Warmachine and Hordes that… well, they just can’t figure out, or otherwise aren’t fans of. Don’t get too stressed, we’ll be back to our usual chipper selves next episode, but for now? It’s grumblin’ time… Oh, and Jordan likes breathing heavily into his microphone. No wonder he’s such a League of Legends celebrity.

Goodness Gracious, Great Balls of Fire! (And Lightning. And Ice.)

MPA

I’ve been building a lot of lists lately and in the course of doing so I’ve been revisiting an old favourite of mine, Epic Warlock Baldur the Stonesoul.  More specifically his theme force, the “Hour of Reckoning“.

I’ve previously used eBaldur with some success but one thing I’ve always wanted was some heavy ranged firepower to add to his “brick up” Theme Force play style.  Sitting the heavy Constructs (or Warp Wolves should I choose to venture outside of his Theme Force) behind Rock Wall for a Defense bonus and protection from non-reach models is a solid Tortoise formation but lacks speed.  In order to force the enemy to engage this near impenetrable wall of heavy warbeasts, I require a serious ranged threat.

Kaiser Tournamente

Hi folks. I’m new to the blog here, but some readers might remember some of my articles on Lost Hemisphere (or most likely not, but I need to milk that internet fame for all it’s worth). I previously wrote articles on the rules of Warmachine & Hordes, analyzed errata documents, etc. but at the moment there isn’t much to write about in that regard. So, as an avid Warmachine and Hordes player, I’m going to write about something near and dear to me: tournaments.

I love Privateer Press’ games because of the high level of competition and mental challenge that it provides, and you’d be hard-pressed to find that in greater amounts than at a tournament. Most people’s tournament experience will be from their local game store, but there’s also the option of travelling to other stores and going to conventions, both of which I’d recommend if you’d like to grow as a player (but I’ll go into that at a later time). Privateer Press has a rather extensive Organized Play section on their web site, but the main four formats that tournaments will fall under are Steamroller, Hardcore, Masters, and Iron Gauntlet. I know a lot of players out there are new to the game or haven’t done much gaming outside of a casual game with friends, so I’m going to attempt to make a tournament primer for y’all.

No Quarter Magazine #48 Preview

Privateer Press has gone over the top to promote the release of issue #48 of the No Quarter magazine, due out later this month.  In a special video preview, NQ Editor-in-Chief Aeryn Rudel gives us the scoop on what sort of spoilers will be contained within the pages of this issue:

Nerdy Jobs

I suspect that introductions are in order. Hi, I’m Boots. I am one of many people who find writing introductions incredibly difficult, mostly because I want to reference almost every single tired old pun that is in the “book”. I’m from Ontario, Canada and given that knowledge it is easy to presume that I spend the vast majority of my time at home buried under an incredible amount of ice and snow. When I get a chance to escape my hovel, I’m an avid board game nerd, miniature aficionado, and one who infrequently reads comic books.

I’ve been blogging for a couple years now, under this alias, though in the past my time has been spent behind a camera as opposed the keyboard. I do a fair bit of convention traveling; I have seen the steampunk mysteries of Templecon, the countless wonders of Gencon and the Hallowed Halls of PAX. I would love to call myself world-weary but that just makes me think of the Travel Network and I don’t believe I’d be a very good travel critic. I’d likely just end up writing reviews along the lines of: it’s too hot here, or not enough snow. Not exactly Outdoor Life Network material.

Guest blog time folks, as we have a contribution blog from a good friend and local player of mine who wanted to show off his talents.  Sit back and enjoy the article and be sure to give our guest some feedback on his article. – NB

My name is Chadi Faraj. I’ve never written a blog before but I figured I’d give it a shot since I can get a bit hysterical about the games I play.

A little history about myself; I’ve been playing table top miniature games, assembling models and painting for about 18 years now and have loved every second of it!

The reason I’m writing this article is that I felt like showing off some of the work I have been doing lately, maybe impart some of the tricks I’ve learned over the years, and more importantly learn new tricks from any comments and cool tip you guys may have for me.

So here goes nothing….. (Go easy on him kids, he’s fragile! – NB)

Tools of the Trade

MPA

Have you ever heard the expression, “It’s a poor craftsman that blames his tools”?  This may be true of many trades but it does not apply to miniature painting.  In fact I believe that quality tools can make one’s miniatures better than what they could be with poorly maintained or mediocre brushes and other tools we work with.  This article aims to provide you with the details and hopefully impart some knowledge on the more commonly used tools of our trade.

Gamer Funk (No not the smell!)

So the first thing I find myself having to tackle while trying to get the blog up and running off the ground is the fact that as a gamer I am currently suffering from a bit of malaise.  My preferred game, Privateer Press‘ Warmachine calls to me and I am busy thinking of lists, plotting which models to use with which Warcasters but I simply cannot dredge up the will to get painting and be productive.

A New Post!

Because we have asked you here, dear reader, to take a look and give us your thoughts, on our endeavour.

Much love,

The Boy with the Blade.
